Everyone has a mental picture of how business “should” look… how clients arrive, how launches go, how a partner or your team “should” handle things.
That picture becomes a trap. When reality doesn’t match it, disappointment and regret kick in, you try harder, and results slow down.
Working harder doesn’t usually lead to a 5-star outcome, but finding your calm gives you space to connect with your inner badass and see a brighter future.
You’re able to move forward with clean energy, clarity, and smarter moves.
When you grip tightly to your mental pictures, it creates chaos because…
- Control kills capacity. The tighter you hold on to the “right way,” the less room you have for better options.
- Regret is a time leak. Replaying the past steals the focus you need to generate your desired outcome.
- Panic adds more to your plate. You want to reach for quick fixes that amount to more tasks… not moving you closer to calm.
If any of that is showing up in your business, steal this simple reset I use to come back to calm.
Use it as soon as you feel yourself tightening up.
The Calm Reset
1) Interrupt the downward spiral.
Close your eyes if possible and take a few deep, intentional breaths to be present in your body. Decide that you’ll find a way to arrive at your desired destination.
2) Audit your mental picture.
Write the “should”: “By now I should have 10 sign-ups from Instagram.” Underline the parts you can’t control (other people’s timing, platform reach), etc.
3) Extract the ideal end outcome.
What outcome were you trying to create? “Three ideal clients booked for this offer.” Keep the outcome if it feels good, but notice if fear or comparison is driving this decision. If so, ask yourself, “What does my higher self want?”
4) Release the outcome.
Not forever, just for right now. Put it in your higher self’s hands to handle so you can release some (or all) of the pressure
5) Choose a simple move.
Action is a quick way to feel empowered. Once your nervous system has come down a few notches, feel into your heart to see what action would elevate your mood. It can be business related or not, but it must originate from a place of empowerment vs. fear or force.
A lot of people think calm is a passion thing, but there’s so much power in it.
When you drop how things must look, you stop negotiating with reality and start choosing from power.
From a place of calm, you can pick the smallest effective move, do soulful work, and let inspiration propel you forward.
Yes, your outcomes improve, but the real win is self-trust. It’s really the only way to make decisions that make your business more efficient, fulfilling, and profitable.
