You know that one thing you keep avoiding in your business?
The thing that makes your stomach twist just thinking about it.
The thing that’s been hanging out on your to-do list for weeks… months… maybe even years.
Whether it’s raising your fees, launching that program, hiring help, upgrading your messaging, or finally learning the tech piece you’ve been resisting… avoiding it is draining your energy and separating you from prosperity.
Every time you push the “hard thing” aside, a part of your attention stays hooked on it. That split energy creates friction and keeps you out of alignment with receiving.
Energetically speaking, when you ignore what’s calling you forward, you send a signal that you’re not ready… and prosperity responds to that signal.
The moment you face it, take a step, and lean into taking a step (even a tiny one), you shift your energy. You become congruent with growth, and that opens the door for more clients, more opportunities, and yes… more moola.
To move past this procrastination, you have to understand that it’s not about the actual task.
It’s about your relationship to it.
What to do? I’m so happy you asked. 😆
Step 1: Claim It
First, don’t pretend it’s not there. You can’t move through resistance if you don’t look at it. Owning it creates an opening.
Write down the thing you’ve been putting off.
Then ask yourself:
- What am I making this mean about me?
- What am I afraid might happen if I finally do it?
- What do I believe will change if I nail this?
Step 2: Break It Down to Micro-Moves
Most of the time, the “hard thing” feels impossible because you’re looking at the whole mountain instead of the next step.
Here’s a simple process I use with my clients:
- Write down the desired result you want. (Make it a 5-star ending.)
- List each step you think it’ll take to get there.
- Choose one thing you can do in the next 24 hours. (Even if it’s super teeny.)
Momentum beats perfection every single time. Build that muscle, baby.
Step 3: Reframe “Hard”
Sometimes, what feels “hard” is just unfamiliar. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible, it means there’s a learning curve. So what?! You’ve learned sooooo many things just to be where you’re at.
The mantra I use:
“I can learn this. I can do hard things.” And I always add at the end, “I’m such a badass!” It’s an immediate vibe upgrade. 🤩
Approach it like an experiment. Curiosity takes the pressure off and opens up creativity.
Step 4: Seek Support and Accountability
If you could’ve handled this thing alone, you would have. The fastest way through resistance is support + accountability.
- Hire a mentor who’s already done what you’re trying to do.
- Join a program where you’re surrounded by people who are moving forward.
- Partner with someone who’ll lovingly deliver truth bombs when needed.
When you set up accountability, you borrow someone else’s certainty until you build your own.
(I was able to build my first custom GPT and do my first YouTube video because I have accountability partners… who also happen to be coaches!)
Step 5: Celebrate the Micro-Wins
Every time you take a step, even a messy one… celebrate the hell out of it. I talked about my first meditation video on YouTube for days! It may have sounded like a small task to some, but it took me hours to figure out all the tech to make it happen.
Progress compounds when you notice and appreciate it. Most entrepreneurs wait for a huge milestone or windfall before they celebrate. Remember, what you focus on grows.
You’ll surprise yourself when you stop avoiding the hard things and finally lean in. And if you want someone in your corner who’s done this hundreds of times with entrepreneurs just like you, find a mentor or join a program that keeps you moving.
Once you do the thing you’ve been avoiding… everything else gets easier.
