Marketing Is A Four-Letter Word

“If only I knew how to market in a way that made people get the value of what I offer!”

Every time one of my coaching programs had few (or zero!) registrations, I cursed marketing. I knew it was the one thing standing between my ideal clients and me. And it really ticked me off!

I decided to channel that irritation into one of the most powerful tools in my business. I decided marketing could be fun and easy.

I also decided that I had what it took to be good at it.

  • How do you feel about marketing?
  • What kind of results do you expect from your marketing efforts?
  • Are you following your own rules or somebody else’s?

Shifting how you feel, what you expect, and 100% honoring your values when you market is going to change how many ideal customers say yes to buying from you each year.

Good marketing isn’t about quantity, it’s about creating heartfelt relationships with your tribe. People say yes because they get the value of what you offer.

And they can only understand the value when you feel strongly about what you offer and communicate that while standing in your power (with love, of course!).

You don’t have to replicate what the marketing gurus do when it comes to reaching out to your people to share your products and services. You just have to be you and stay true to your brand.

Many of you reading this may be on my email list and think, “Jeanna, I can’t send out an article every week or promote my stuff like you do.”

You don’t have to … and you could choose to make it easy (and dare I say fun?).

Once I decided to learn about marketing and do it the “Jeanna” way, I immediately got different results from every marketing action I took.

I never market when I feel scared about money or not 100% behind the offer. I never send out an email or put up a webpage that doesn’t feel true to my brand or values. I never talk about things that I can’t back up. If I promise it, I’ll deliver. And that’s why I can be fully in my passion when I speak about my products and services.

Marketing is just an extension of you. It’s called communication with the people who need your stuff most. You are helping them to create a solution in an ideal way.

And that makes marketing a beautiful thing. If you think marketing is yucky, then it’s going to be a bit challenging to make more than enough money to survive doing what you feel passionate about.

I suggest you make marketing a four-letter word: LOVE. Yep, spread the love. Only communicate the value of the solutions you offer from a place of inspiration and joy. Create a love affair with your ideal clients and customers.

I LOVE and APPRECIATE YOU!

Be Promoted Everywhere on the Internet

Co-creating, marketing, and joining forces with other people can catapult your business into six or seven figures twice as fast as you going at it alone.

People who endorse you to their tribe are called joint venture partners (JVs) or promotional partners.

But just like attracting Five-Star Clients, you want to focus on attracting only Five-Star Partners. Anything less will mean you’re compromising… and that’s not cool.

The possibilities and ideas are endless for the ways you can partner… as long as the partner is ideal for you.

Before you hook up with a joint venture (JV) partner to put yourself on the map in your niche, ask yourself:

  • Is your product, program, or service a fit for their audience?
  • Is their style of delivery aligned with your values?
  • Have you experienced their products or services firsthand?
  • Are their marketing materials professional and compelling?
  • What is their history promoting other people?
  • Will they be motivated by the commission you pay them for the new clients they’re sending your way?
  • Does partnering with this person intuitively feel good?
  • What do they expect in return, if anything? Is that something that feels good to you?

Once you’ve found yourself a Five-Star JV Partner, treat your JV partner as a business partner, because you are during the time you play together! Ask for what you want, be clear on your outcomes, and communicate expectations clearly.

And by all means, add some fun into the mix! Many of my JV partners have become my dearest friends… masterminding for success and traveling the world.

You want partners who are committed to your success and vice versa.

JV partnerships are a direct cause of my huge increase in profits the past seven years. Why limp along by yourself when you can soar with others?!

Make sure you grab this free blueprint report on JVing.

Top 5 Launch Lessons of 2017/18

No matter how successful a product, service, or program launch, there are plenty of lessons to be learned. Launches are a vehicle for upleveling your entire business, as well as yourself!

Here are my top 5 lessons from our last four launches:

#1. Prepare ahead so you can be in the flow and have fun.

Because I know I can pull off anything in a pinch, I used to work on my webinars and slide shows up until the last minute, under a cloud of tension. But NO MORE!

Now I map out my launches about a year in advance. But I don’t actively work on them until a few months ahead. That gives me lots of brainstorming time before I actually get into action.

My last launch was totally stress free because almost everything was complete two to four weeks ahead. That meant I could be totally present in the moment during the launch. And it was a blast.

You can’t attract clients if you’re a hot mess of stress.

#2. Invest in support so you can generate more income.

I used to focus on how much money was going out, instead of the return on investment down the road. I tried to do a lot by myself or not invest in marketing support that would assist me in attracting new clients… because I was a penny pincher. I didn’t trust that what I was offering would make clients come running.

Now, even when it’s a bit scary, I invest in tools that I know will make us more visible to potential 5-Star Clients… like running Facebook ads, professionally shot and edited videos, and giving my team members bonuses for their time and energy.

And for goodness’ sake, hire someone who knows the behind-the-scenes technology if you don’t! You can spend hours trying to figure something out that they can do in 20 minutes.

Not all investments have immediate R.O.I… but they always do in the long term.

#3. Try new strategies, but evaluate their impact on your time, well-being, and income.

I love doing live webinars, and my potential clients love them too. Based on that, we did two extra webinars during our last launch. It was fun in the moment, and yes, we got new clients, but nine live online events in a two-week period was a bit much for my team and me, energy-wise. Next time if we want to add more webinars, some will be live, some not.

We also tried a pre-pre-launch email campaign this time that took a bit of energy, but nobody responded. I wasn’t surprised. The idea wasn’t something that turned me on, but I was curious to see if it’d work. We won’t do it again. =)

#4. Don’t try new technology that you’re uncomfortable with during the launch.

New technology, no matter how simple it seems, can go rogue on you during a launch. Even when you try it out beforehand and it works, you never know if you accidentally touched the wrong button in the settings.

Yeah, that happened to us on two totally different platforms in our last launch. And there’s nothing worse than the stress of a tech glitch when you’re doing something live online, need an email broadcast to go out, or need to process a payment.

#5. Have a backup plan for all systems.

I’ve heard so many nightmares about a critical system failing during a launch and literally sabotaging up to 50% of potential sales. Every time I’ve heard one of those stories from a peer, I ask my team to get a backup system for that area of our business.

For years we’ve had backup systems and never needed them, until the last launch.

I did two webinars in a row where I sent attendees to a registration page that wouldn’t load. People wanted to give us money, but our website was slow as molasses. Devastating.

We thought the problem was ours and fixed after the first time. But when it happened again, we found out it was the website host having company-wide issues and had to make several phone calls to get it fixed.

My team had a backup server that we moved everything to before the next webinar! Having backup plans keeps stress to a minimum and allows you to stay in the game with a positive outcome.

We have backup tech people, merchant accounts, customer service people, and more. It doesn’t take a lot of time and rarely any money to have help on standby. And it can be a launch saver!

Oh! And lists. Have lots of checklists. Even if you think it’s something you’d never forget… write it down on a master list. Small things forgotten can make a big impact on your sales conversions.

#6. BONUS Lesson: Don’t be on vacation and launch at the same time.

Yeah, I tried that. It took me two launches in a row to learn that lesson!

I was at my family’s lake house during my summer launch with a small laptop, a cell phone, and my normal landline phone. I thought I could pull it off since most everything was done before I went there.

It was scorching hot with no air conditioner while I was doing my webinars… while the rest of my family was out on the boat having a grand time.

And I had to use my cell phone as a hot spot to be on the internet out in the woods. Needless to say, the connection was so slow, everything took ten times longer than it would’ve at home. Super bad idea all the way around.

Then I did it again for my winter launch. Everything was done long before Christmas vacation, so why not take the kids snow skiing for a week even though it would overlap a couple of days of my launch? Because a lot of emails and communication still needs to happen… especially during a launch where you have 40 or so people promoting you!

I came home a day early… cured of the fantasy that overlapping a launch and vacation is a smart thing to do. (We take plenty of vacations a year… so I’m sure I just had a bad case of FOMO with my family!)

5 Things To Help Attract Clients To Your Business On Facebook:

5 things to help attract clients to your business on Facebook:After gently nudging me to do a video via Facebook Live for weeks, Alina Vincent finally got me to do it. She’s brilliant at showing entrepreneurs how to easily get clients on Facebook without paying for ads. That’s why I asked her to share her brilliance with you here.

Here are 5 things you want to keep in mind as you are getting ready to attract clients to your business on Facebook:

1. Create Your Facebook Fan Page

Your Facebook fan page is the foundation for your business on Facebook. If you want to be taken seriously, you should definitely create a fan page. If you want your business to be found by search engines, you need your fan page.

Your Facebook page is the professional facade for your business on Facebook, so it should definitely be your first step in starting to use Facebook for business.

2. Make the Decision to Use Facebook for Business

The majority of business owners do understand they need to create a Facebook fan page in order to establish their presence on Facebook.

However, one of the common barriers that often holds entrepreneurs back from being successful on Facebook is the desire to keep their personal profile personal, and not accept friend requests from people they don’t know.

If you are one of them, you might be losing a lot of potential connections, because most of your potential clients would rather send you a friend request than try to find your fan page.

“By keeping your personal profile private, you might be missing out on connections with potential clients.”

You don’t need to give up your privacy, however. You can still share certain posts just with your family and close friends simply by controlling the visibility of each post on your personal timeline.

3. Get Clear on Your Target Audience

To market successfully on any platform and using any method, you need to understand your target audience. It holds just as true for Facebook.

You must understand who your ideal customers are, what they do, what their struggles are, and what they are looking for. You need to understand their interests, challenges, desires, and fears.

The more narrow your niche and your focus is, the more you will stand out as an expert in the clients’ eyes. The more clear you are on who your ideal client is, the more success you will have with using Facebook for business.

“The more narrow your niche and your focus is, the more your ideal clients will be attracted to you.”

4. Get Clear on Your Main Area of Expertise

You also need to be very clear on what you do, what your area of expertise is, and how you can help your ideal clients. You must know what problems you can solve with ease for your target audience.

If you don’t know what you are good at, nobody else will either.

5. Know What You Are Trying to Achieve

Before you start spending a ton of time on Facebook, decide how you are going to use Facebook for your business. Are you going to mainly use it to drive traffic to your website, to provide support for existing customers, to build long-term relationships with potential clients, or to sell your programs and services?

Different focuses will require a different approach, so make sure you are clear on how Facebook fits into your overall marketing strategy.

Once you complete the steps above, you will be well on your way to positioning yourself and your business on Facebook.

The 7 Mindsets of a Master of Enrollment

Because most people are trying to find their magic pill strategy to get new clients, I want to remind you of one critical error. Even the best strategy won’t work if your mindset stinks. So I asked Bill Baren (a dear friend and one of my mentors) to write an article for you on the mindset of client attraction. You’ll LOVE what he shared below!

The 7 Mindsets of a Master of EnrollmentKnowing what to say during a consultation is important, but even more important is who you are being and how you are connecting with people that you are speaking to. The following are 7 principles of being a Master of Enrollment:

1. Care about the person more than getting hired

When you’re focused on being an ally to your potential client getting to where they want to go, you will be perceived as an ally. But when you’re clinging to “getting a client,” your potential client will experience the energy of the consultation as manipulative or off-putting. Your practice is to think less about yourself and what’s in it for you (such as getting a client), and place much more attention on your potential client and really what’s in it for them.

2. Connection counts more than anything

The connection you have with your prospective client is much more important than anything else. So even if you make some mistakes during your consultation, you’ll be fine if you maintain a connection and rapport.

3. Acknowledge, Acknowledge, Acknowledge

Mirror back as much as you can to the person you’re speaking to, and show them fully that you’re excited for them to get to where they want to go. Be compassionate about their fears, pains and frustrations. Make sure to acknowledge your potential clients as much as you can. You want them to feel deeply seen, heard and understood. If you can create that experience, that in itself is a huge gift.

4. Be Curious

Your questions and curiosity for your potential client will be a breath of fresh air! Few people in their life will be as interested as you are. However, your potential clients will know the difference between genuine curiosity and fake curiosity just so you can gather information to get a client. So, it’s got to be genuine.

5. Let go of force in the process

Once you start trying to convince, once you start changing somebody’s mind, the process breaks down. This happens when you’re trying to sell someone on your value. Instead, when you Establish the Gap really well, the rest of the pieces just fall into place with the right people.

By the way, one reason the match may not be happening as frequently as you like is that your offering is not tapping into an urgent desire of your target market.

6. Be a matchmaker

It’s not about you getting the sale. It’s about exploring whether there’s a match between your potential client’s current genuine want and what you’re offering. When there’s a match, you can create magic together. And when there isn’t, it’s about you pointing your potential client in the right direction where they can find the match.

By the way, one reason the match may not be happening as frequently as you like is that your offering is not tapping into an urgent desire of your target market.

7. Your Consultation is the ultimate act of service

It’s important for you to be in touch with how your potential client hiring you is actually part of being of service to them. Because chances are, your potential client has an urgent problem that they’ve been struggling with for a long time. And if they could have solved it on their own, they would have already done it.  So your service offerings may be just the thing they need. You are here to give them that extra inspiration to take the big step of going for what they really want.

Plan for Profits

Have you ever scurried around looking for your sunglasses only to find them on your head?masterpeacecoach-b3783dc0-48d2-4baa-a658-194fc4d3c24e-v2

Why didn’t you know they were there?

Most likely you were rushing, not really taking your time to think it through.

Believe it or not, it’s like that with money.

You scurry around, trying to hustle up some dough only to come up empty handed. Maybe you’re always on the hunt to find the golden marketing technique that will land you a wait-list of clients.

Being wealthy is not about getting lucky. It’s planned.

Maybe you’ve seen people whose businesses took off, yet they weren’t necessarily in a Rockefeller mindset. How’d they do it?

They truly believed they had something of value. And they asked themselves how they could get it into the hands of their ideal clients and customers.

What do you believe about your product and services? Should people be falling all over themselves to buy them? Do you believe that you should be rolling in the dough?

Money is everywhere. Any product or service can be your catalyst to wealth if you stop thinking you need someone to give you a break. You can increase your capacity to receive more income by changing your relationship with money. See it as something readily available to you, in any amount you want.

Sara Blakely transformed her idea of pantyhose with no feet into a household name (Spanx) for females who want to look trim in their little black dress or jeans. She did $1 million in sales her first year as a freaking solopreneur (now a multi-million dollar business!).

How’d she pull that off?

She went for it like it was a matter of fact, that it should be a best seller. And it is! She laid out a simple and creative plan and took the steps to implement it.

She thought it through.

Recently my bestie posted a short video of a cooler (to keep food and beverages cold) on my Facebook page. The video led me to Kickstarter.com, a place where entrepreneurs seek funding for their projects. I immediately invested so I could get my very own Coolest Cooler.

Their goal was to raise $50,000. They inspired 62,642 people to give them $13,285,226. The most successful Kickstarter project ever!

How’d that happen?

It has a lot to do with the creator’s mindset. He said, “I invent lots of things, but honestly very few have brought so much fun to my life.”

Before it was even close to funded he had nailed down the CAD design, the manufacturers and showcased professional videos to show off his cooler. He went balls out planning his launch in a time frame that most people would say is impossible.

He played it like he meant it. And he did it!

Are you planning for profits right now? Please don’t wait for a ‘break’ or struggle through years of scraping by. Adopt an ‘I CAN DO THIS’ attitude, along with a strategic plan and your business too, could be doubling its profits in less than a year.

You’ve got this.

What stories of start-ups made you think that they were awesome ideas? Write your answers in the comments below.
