No More Rigidity About Revenue Goals

What happens in Greece is not staying in Greece.

I’m back in the States after a week-long vacation with some of my dearest friends who also happen to be mastermind and joint venture partners.

In between touring Athens and Delphi we sat around a huge villa overlooking the sea while we masterminded (brainstormed) about being more effective in our businesses. The topic of setting revenue goals for program launches came up and that’s when I got totally resistant. Keep reading because this may change the way you set your own revenue goals.

Every year I set revenue goals based on doubling my numbers from the year before.

I like to double my…

  • Revenue
  • Profit
  • Mailing list subscribers
  • Number of people in my programs
  • And more

It feels like a game that is fun and stretches me into new territory. More often than not, this strategy works well for me. But when I don’t double my numbers I feel disappointed. Which means I’m attached to that goal (of doubling the numbers), which is never good for profit attraction.

In my last big launch I did not double my revenue. I barely beat the numbers from the year prior. I appreciated that I did better than the previous year but I also beat myself up for coming nowhere near my targeted goal.

My mentor was at the villa with us and pointed out a flaw in my goal-making process; that’s when I got resistant.

He said, “You might want to make your minimum goal less than your numbers from last year. What if you’re testing a new strategy that doesn’t quite pan out but you learn something valuable that will help you in the next launch after that?”

Huh? Lower my standards?! Never.

But after some coaching I saw that he was right.

I was so rigid about my revenue goals that I wasn’t fully appreciating all the small successes along the way. If my numbers fall short of the BIG goal, I still need to keep celebrating my progress.

Self-judgment messes with my ability to attract more revenue.

I wasn’t giving myself any permission for setbacks, learning or, do I dare say it… failure. There’s no way to win if I’m not flexible.

I adjusted my launch revenue goals for next year. I decreased them and instead of feeling like a loser, I feel empowered. I’m still setting myself up to double my numbers, but I’ll be celebrating – whether I make that goal or if the numbers stay the same as the previous launch.

This may be my happiest year ever now that I’ve ditched the judgment!

Have you ever re-adjusted your goals in order to move forward and improve your business? Let me know in the comments below.

How Knowledge and History Kill Your Success

Sometimes what you know may be more dangerous than what you don’t know. You may mistake knowledge or experience as “truth”. There is only one truth about your business; what you believe will come true.

Let me show you how this works. Tika became distraught when her creativity seemed to disappear overnight. She is a designer, so losing her creative mojo instantly produces stress. When her mental fog lifts she is barraged with clients calling and asking for stuff she can’t provide. Profits dry up and the stress escalates.

The killer of Tika’s creativity was a client who said they could only afford a design costing $10,000 when she knew that in order to do it right, the cost would be more than double that. Tika felt boxed in by the limitation of price. This has happened many times over the years she’s been in business.

She consulted with other designers and they all agreed that this is the way it “goes” in their industry. They had a ‘bitchfest’ about other things they experience like having to hunt down final payments from clients, the lack of good people to outsource their work to and the long hours they put in with little appreciation.

Tika and her peers never thought there could be a solution that worked because their history told them that they had tried everything and never had a satisfactory result. They all tolerated the “downside” to their industry… although they didn’t do it well.

I coached Tika to shift in her perception of what was possible. She decided to do her creative designing as if the client had given her an unlimited budget. Her creativity and confidence were instantly restored. She produced a brilliant design. She approached the customer with a firm stand on what her vision was and that it wasn’t going to be within the budget he’d originally given her.

At the end of the conversation, the client agreed to spend four times the original amount. What shifted? TIKA! She decided to do her craft her way. Her confidence and passion came back, she listened to her inner business expert and the result was exactly what she had been craving all these years.

Listening to other people’s limitations will get you nowhere. I’d be out of business within weeks if I did that because people tell me daily that they don’t have the time or money to invest in my services. I tell them they can’t afford not to hire me.

I’d also be broke and working 60 hours a week if I had followed the expertise of the coaches who told me what to charge, way back when I started my business. My own history shows me I can attract business with no effort.

My history also shows me years of major “efforting” with little result.

If I thought history was an indicator of my future when my business was tanking, I would have gotten a job. I would’ve thrown in the towel after nobody registered for my pilot classes.

There is one thing your history can tell you. It reveals the results of what you were thinking and feeling. That’s it. And since you can change those two things on a daily basis, nothing is ever set in stone. I mean nothing. There is not one circumstance you can’t turn around. You can even attract a whole new set of customers and employees, even if your past shows you a lineup of flops.

Forget what you know when it comes to the bombs, disasters, financial ruin, crappy relationships, encounters with thieves, and all that other depressing stuff.

If you had no access to your history and all the passion you needed for your desired business outcome, how would you proceed?

There is a reality you can create that includes bliss. That’s my focus. Wanna join me? Add your thoughts in the comments below.

Practices for a Peace-Filled Business

In the last week alone, I’ve heard these statements from business owners:

  • I feel like a 1/2 ton of rocks are piled on my head by day’s end. I need an intervention.
  • My customers act like their hair is on fire and it’s my job to put it out.
  • I have a million excuses for why I’m not taking action.
  • I’m constantly dodging bullets.
  • I’ve been all twisted up lately.

I don’t know about you, but at one time or another I’ve definitely felt similar things.

You feel like burying your head in the sand and telling everyone to go away. If you were a tad more bold and profitable, you’d book a flight to Fiji and stay there for a month or two.

Before you go deeper into the muck, let’s just take a step back from the craziness of your business. I know you may feel that you have no control or can’t pinpoint an ideal solution, but it may be even simpler than you think to find some peace.

Back in 1998, I created my very first product, The Art of Practice. It’s a simple, but powerful life changer. A practice is anything that you do over and over. It’s such a deep-seated pattern you may not even see it as a pattern but “just the way it is”.

High achievers and entrepreneurs have a tendency to blame their team, economy, lack of knowledge, time and/or money for the problems they experience in their business. You never do that, right? I’m going to assert that you will change the entire mode of your business operation if you adjust your practices.

I recently worked with a client who felt like his head was going to blow off due to the lack of competent people on his team, long hours and no time to work on the business and make adjustments.

We came up with two solutions. One was a short action list to eliminate a few of the immediate problems. The other was a Peaceful Practice List. This is a common solution for almost every powerful client I’ve ever had. In fact, it seems like the more they achieve, the less happy they become because their practices revolve around getting more stuff done and never being present in the moment.

Save your health, sanity and relationships by creating your own Peace Rules. If you knew that you were going to literally die in the next year if you didn’t redesign the way you do business, what would be your new practices?

Here are some examples:

  • Exercise before going to the office
  • Hire ideal team members or don’t hire at all
  • Leave white space on your calendar
  • Increase the money you put in your savings monthly or bi-weekly
  • Take no appointments on Monday, Friday or both
  • Set regular business hours and honor them
  • Create daily goals based on your yearly business plan
  • Create daily goals the night before
  • Take a lunch break
  • Check email no more than 2-3 times a day
  • Close your office door for periods of time with no phone calls, emails, or texts
  • Clean your desk daily or weekly
  • Do a daily appreciation journal or Speed Dial the Universe Journal
  • Never lower your rates or prices
  • Only accept ideal clients who are thrilled to work with you

Creating peaceful practices in your life will support your business. There is no way you can create more profits and life balance if your practices support chaos.

Clarifying new peaceful practices won’t be difficult. But you may struggle with the implementation. The things you must do for peace might seem counterintuitive for success. They’re not. It’s the only way to real success.

“Having it all” means that you get to have flow, efficiency, fun, joy and profits. Don’t settle for anything less. Ever.

What are some of the ways you try to acheive peace? Write them in the comments below.

11 Law of Attraction Nuances to Rock Your Profits

I believe anything is possible in business. I believe that you can create gargantuan results without a whole lot of knowledge about the area in which you wish to experience success. I believe that you can turn a struggling business into a very profitable business in less than a year.

I experienced all of the above by taking full responsibility for all of my outcomes… the positive and the negative.

I’ve been talking about the Law of Attraction for over two decades. I’ve coached many who “say” they are using attraction principles, but they don’t know how to use it to their advantage.

Whatever you give your attention to now is likely what you’ll experience in your future. That’s how the Law of Attraction works at a very basic level. But that’s not really enough information to get high-octane results on a consistent basis.

Here are the nuances of getting kickass results powered by your inner game…

1.You have to truly believe that thoughts create every piece of your reality. Every client, every income increase or decrease, and every person that supports your business as a vendor, employee or contractor is a direct result of your beliefs and focus.

2.Know the essence (the qualities) of your desired outcome and make a decision that you will get it.

3.Course correct when you notice you are spending more time on your problem or lack of progress than on the desired outcome.

4.Give yourself some time to see the magical manifestations. Getting ticked off about the lack of evidence of your progress will only slow down the process.

5.Practice. Practice. You must train your brain to know that results are a direct reflection of how you think. Stop running around like a chicken with its head cut off aimlessly taking action. Course correct as many times as it takes.

6.Make space for peace and fun. Without these two things, you will be slow to see results in your business and overwhelm will consume you.

7.Take action and implement new business strategies only when you feel very sure that it is the ideal action and strategy for you.

8.Don’t worry about what other people think or if they are doing better than you. You don’t need to do all that the experts are saying in order to be a success. Mind your OWN business.

9.You have an Inner Business Expert. Listen to the voice calling out inside of you. You are being given direct guidance all the time. It’s your job to trust that information.

10.Continually focus on what you are doing well and acknowledge any progress that you are making. Focusing on progress will attract more progress. Soon there will be an avalanche of evidence that you are a positive force to reckon with!

11.If an idea falls flat or something feels hard… STOP! Regroup, connect to your inner guidance and wait for a new way of moving forward that feels like a set-up for winning with ease.

There are more nuances to using the Law of Attraction successfully in your business, but master the above and you’ll be on your way to profit-doubling fun!

Which of these helped you the most? Leave your answer in the comments below.
