Five Practices to Increase Profits Without Stress

When your main focus is on increasing profits and expanding the reach of your marketing it's incredibly easy to be taken down a dozen rabbit holes each day. There are so many marketing, leadership and small business experts giving abundant strategies to grow your business that it creates an obstacle course of to-dos for the average entrepreneur.

If you'll think less of implementing the 101 profit ideas you have and give more time to the following five, simple practices, you'll find that you'll have less stress and more profits without trying.

Your mind will want to divert you, but don't give in. Profitable businesses use some version of the following practices and have results to prove their power.

1. Always begin each brainstorming session, networking conversation or task knowing exactly what you want to get out of it. Never just show up and plunge into the task at hand without sitting down and giving conscious thought to your ideal outcome for each segment of your day.

2. Tap into your Inner Business Expert several times each day. Most people save their spiritual connection and intuition for after work-hours or when there is a crisis. When you decide to partner with your inner guidance, your business genius will be at full power. You can access out-of-the-box solutions, create new products and services, and feel at peace no matter how chaotic things might appear.

Turn Fear into Profits

Focused on MoneyI missed a huge opportunity for learning back in 1999, because I was so busy trying to "get it right". And that missed opportunity taught me how to turn my fears about business and leadership into courage and powerful actions.

I signed up for a leadership course that was a yearlong process through The Coaches Training Institute. I was a young whippersnapper but had been through other leadership training and felt like I was ahead of the curve. Hilarious, because a real leader doesn't think that way.

There were many opportunities for us to speak 'on stage' and facilitate the group. I was so busy trying to get the exercise right and worrying about how I did that I missed the opportunity to improve my leadership skills.

If I could do it all over again I'd be hungry for feedback to create learning for myself. I'd be eager to be present, do my best and see how it all worked out. Instead my fear was running the agenda and I felt totally uncomfortable when I was standing in front of my peers. I was not having fun and my results proved it.

Now when I'm stretching out of my comfort zone I ask for as much pertinent data — feedback, input, masterminding and help — as I possibly can. I ask powerful questions about the things I'm wary of or need more expertise. I admit my ignorance or fears on the subject at hand so that I can transform it into knowledge and results.

You may find yourself sulking back into your comfort zone when instead you really want to stretch. Maybe you want to offer a new service but you don't know how it would all come together. Maybe you want to expand your business by hiring a new team member or mentor but your lack of money gets in the way of you taking the next step.

Take on the fear. Untangle the old stories, reality and intent. Face what is so, and let that drive you into a passion for taking on the task or dream with excitement and vigor. [Read more...]

Stop Living on the Breadcrumbs Leftover After Expenses

Stop Living on the Breadcrumbs Leftover After ExpensesI’m very clear that the way I pay myself each month would not be endorsed by your bookkeeper or accountant. It’s just unorthodox (I’ll say more about this later). But then again, the way most solopreneurs pay themselves is by seeing what is leftover after paying all of their expenses. What happens if there is nothing leftover?

Stress. Defeat. Struggle. Lack.

I’ll confess. I used to accept the breadcrumbs, too. I thought that everyone else should get the money before I did if I were being a responsible business owner. Now I know better. Paying yourself last is just a practice (sometimes hard to break) that will never grow your business.

When Things Go Wrong in Your Business, React!

When Things Go Wrong in Your Business, ReactI’ve heard many tales of things gone wrong in a business, like…

  • Partners stealing
  • Outrageous debt
  • Employees that disappear when needed most
  • Stacks of bills and no new customers
  • Overwhelming amounts of work and not enough time to get it done
  • Computers crashing and no back up
  • Paying an outside contractor who doesn’t deliver the goods

The list goes on. It’s inevitable that you’ll hit a glitch or two in your business’ life span. But how you react to it will be the linchpin for bouncing back to success.

In my experience, it’s not easy to get to the bright fluffy positive thought place when you have to deal with urgent and important small catastrophes. Go for something easier and more powerful in these moments.

The first step is to give yourself ‘full permission to be where you are’. Throw your hands up in the air and acknowledge that this circumstance completely sucks, it’s not fair and you want to scream obscenities at the person who is at fault (Who is clearly not you!)

There is no reason to keep your emotions together here. In rough moments, it’s fine to be rough around the edges. Surrender to what it is.

The second step is emotional release. If your website is down and you’re in the middle of an important marketing launch you’ve got to let off some steam before you take any actions to move into solution. You’ve got to get it out.

Scream it out. (I love screaming in the car and saying all the stuff that I would never want anyone to know I'm thinking.) Walk it out. Exercise it out. Talk it out. Write it out. Do whatever works for you and do not feel wimpy doing it. Be loud and proud for taking control of your emotions in this empowering way.

Remember, anger and frustration are higher up on the emotional food chain than despair. You instantly feel a smidgen better by intentionally expressing yourself. If someone witnesses you falling apart, so be it. They’ll get over it and later you can use it to create learning for your kids, team or clients.

And the last step is to give yourself extreme self-care. If you were really sick, you’d stay home, right? Or you’d take some other action to remedy what ails you. When the chips are down in your business, the same is necessary. Go do whatever you need to do to feel back in balance. Watch a movie, get a massage, go sit in nature, or have a glass of wine with an uplifting friend. Distraction from the mess at work is a great way to step back into your go get ‘em attitude.

And if you’re one of those business owners who think you should not have bad things happen to you and when they do, you should be able to stay composed…get over it! There is no rule in business that says you should be able to handle everything with grace. It’d be nice to be that way but if you’re not, don’t sweat it.

The truth is, you will bounce back no matter how grave the circumstance. Once you’ve got a grip on your emotions, the next steps to solution will reveal themselves. And until they do…chill out.

The number one rule when things go south in your business is not to resist the stress. Don’t try to hold it all together when inside you feel like falling apart. Be where you are powerfully.

Peace for Profits

Peace for ProfitsLingering thoughts about revenue can evoke stress even in those who are financially sound. It’s natural to set targets for bigger revenue generation. But when you contemplate the possibility of not making the goal, all chaos breaks lose in your mind. It’s even worse when your bank account is showing you the reality of your worst financial nightmare.

The good news is that you can feel at peace in the midst of financial contrast.

In fact, that’s exactly what it will take to bring your revenue goal to fruition.

Problems with prosperity can always be linked back to a lack of peace. You have some story made up in your mind that you won’t have your intended outcome. You fear the consequences or feel like it’s out of your control.

Ta da! Your peace has successfully disappeared.

When I work with private coaching clients, the very first thing we do is focus on daily routines and structures that will give them a sense of peace. Peaceful people make sensible decisions, have access to perfect solutions and can hear their Inner Business Expert’s guidance.

If you’re stressed out, all you can hear are lies. Lies about how scary, unstable and out of control things are.

Doing rampages of appreciation, setting action plans for the day, doing yoga and taking walks are things to be done for increasing profits. Anything that adds to your peace quotient, adds dollars to your bottom line.

When you’ve come back to a solid state of mind, make a decision about what you want to feel about revenue. Not how much money, but how you want to feel in relationship to wealth.

Once you and wealth are friends, then you can begin to design your strategy for a cash infusion. But, please, not before then.

Can you think of ways to trade stress for peace?

Manifesting Your Revenue Goal

Manifesting Your Revenue GoalI love money. I mean I really love it. I love making it and I love spending it. I even like paying my monthly bills. Money makes me happy. And when we talk about how the Laws of Manifestation work, happiness attracts money. It’s a beautiful circle.

Not everyone feels this way. Some people don’t want to deal with money. You may be one of those people who has a love/hate relationship with it. Worse yet is when money is a trigger for stress.

No matter what your current dance is with money, one thing is clear. If you want to increase your profits this year, something has to change. Even if you’re one of those people that consistently up levels your income, you still have to shift your wealth set point to get that money in your bank account.

Because I am fascinated by what it takes to manifest more money, I’m always looking for new ways to coach myself and my clients to get aligned with prosperity. But no matter how many new ways the experts explain the dos and don’ts of attracting more money, it always come down to the same thing.

A decision has to be made.

That’s really it in a nutshell. If you want to manifest your revenue goal this year, choose a target that you can truly get behind, mentally and emotionally. As I sit here and write this, I’m very aware that I have not yet made a concrete decision to make my revenue goal manifest this year.

I’ve been flirting with it. I’ve been talking about it, practicing new ways of being in relationship to money and very focused on increasing my revenue, but…I have not made that darn decision. The number I was going for was in the seven figure arena. It’s a bigger increase than I have ever gone for before. I’ve been seeing it as a probability in the next couple of years.

Yet, none of those reasons could possibly factor into my outcome unless I make a decision to get that ultimate goal. I’m sharing all of this with you because it’s the same process for anyone who wants to make more money. I’m truly a small player when it comes to allowing in revenue when compared to so many others in this world of business. However, I do know that every year I increase my revenue using a decision as my pivot point.

We all have our justifications for why it’s hard to make more money when we have fear rearing its ugly head. Things like, “I can’t find the right team members. I don’t have enough time. I don’t know how to grow my business. I hate marketing.” Whatever. It’s all a bunch of malarkey in the scheme of things.

And just because it’s possible to go for a BIG number, it’s okay to start with a smaller number if you can make "a" solid decision and "100% " be behind "that number". There is no shame in that at all. You have to go at your own pace when increasing your revenue. However, do keep stretching yourself into more exciting targets. You have to keep it compelling.

Universal Laws and logic both support the decision making process. When you decide to do or experience something you set a chain reaction in motion. You begin planning for it. You get excited when you think about what you will be experiencing in the near future.

You be, think and act differently after a concrete decision is made to have that revenue goal..now. The results are inevitably success. You attract everything you need from that point forward to attract money into your world.

The details work themselves out.

I think I just talked myself into a decision. ;-)

Are you ready to manifest your revenue goal this year?

Flipping Out About Money

Flipping Out About MoneyI’m one of those people who is either super happy, really at peace, having a blast or highly stressed. Whatever I do, I do it big. I’m not proud of it, it just is. I’m always a little surprised when I get wound up about something negative because in general I live knowing that all is well. Except when I forget.

There was a period of time when I was really flipped out about money. I would spontaneously cry from the stress of not having any money and going deeper into debt each day. I was not only reminded each day about my lack of money but usually many times throughout the day. It was a vicious cycle.

Looking back on that time of my life I see there is only one reason I got stuck in that rut, I didn’t think I could do anything about it. I didn’t have solutions jumping out at me saying, “Pick me, pick me! I’m going to solve your money issues.” So, I changed nothing about my perspective toward money. I didn’t even try to do anything different. My insides were a wreck because I was flipping out.

What’s funny is that when I finally turned my situation around, I still didn’t know the solution. However, I felt committed to finding it. That empowered me enough to have hope. That hope slowly led me back to my confidence. Soon, the solutions were popping everywhere. Nine months later I was out of debt and had doubled my income.

A happy ending after two years of craziness.

I’m not sure what we think we’ll accomplish from flipping out. Think about children. When they have a tantrum do you really feel like giving them what they want? Does yelling work to get them out of their fit? Can you pressure or guilt them into happiness in that moment?

The only thing that works with my son is soothing. I hold him. I tell him I love him. And slowly he comes around. It’s a much quicker process than becoming irritated at him, trying to talk “sense into him” or any of the other things I’ve tried or watched other parents do.

Soothing is the key to manifesting money fast, too. You have to open your heart to hear the truth. When someone tells you it’ll all work out, believe them. It’s true. Allow yourself some time to flip out and then get busy doing the internal work on your wealth set point. It never fails. As soon as you calm yourself down for a short period of time, you’ll see an opening in your financial dark cloud.

Soothe, soothe, soothe. Be nice to yourself. All financial crises’ can be temporary. It just depends on how long you flip out. I’ve soothed many clients over the years and eventually it dissolves their fears and they make a financial comeback.

We all have the right to choose any reaction we want when dealing with a tough situation. I suggest giving your highly charged emotions some way to vent. Writing about them, exercising, yelling in your car with the windows rolled up or whatever your preferred method is for blowing off steam. Then move forward, one step at a time, into a new frame of mind.

How can a soothing reaction improve your life?
