Monetize Random Acts of Inspiration

Focused on MoneyYou have great business ideas and opportunities coming to you everyday. Yes, even those of you in slumps have them. But having great ideas and opportunities doesn't always equal money in the bank. Even random acts of networking, marketing and planning don't necessarily mean any new business will come your way.

But wait, don't give up!

With a little intention, planning and strategy you can monetize all of your random acts of inspiration.

Let's take a speaking opportunity as an example. I'm offered many opportunities to speak on the radio, tele-summits, and interviews. I always say yes, no matter how big the crowd, when it's something I can do over the phone. If it's an in person gig, I'm super picky because it involves more of my time, energy, arranging childcare, putting on make up, possibly driving in traffic, flying on planes, etc.

Why do I say yes? Because I truly enjoy this way of delivering my message, it's easy for me and I see it as money in the bank even if the results aren't immediate. [Read more...]

Breakthrough to Massive Profits by Living Your Fantasy

I remember the exact moment that my current coaching format popped into my head. I was doing a visualization during my second workshop at the Coaches Training Institute. I clearly saw myself coaching ten clients at $1000 a month. I was working in depth with them and loving how much time I could offer them.

But I didn’t implement that ideal vision until several years later. In fact, I forgot all about that vision the day after I had it.

I was very focused on getting clients in the door when I first began my business. I had sixteen one-on-one clients, plus taught live workshops every month and teleclasses every week. My fees were $350 a month for coaching. The same as most coaches during that time.

But I was not enjoying the process. I was interacting with too many people and mixing up their stories. My coaching fantasy came out from hiding. It whispered, “Ten clients at $1000 each. Unlimited access to you.” I made a decision to go for it and felt instant excitement.

It took some courage but I began taking on new clients in the new format at the new fee. I’ve been doing it now the same way for over a decade. I even kept those same fees until a couple of years ago. Living my fantasy allowed me to move into six figures very easily.

How?

Make the Most of Your Educational Investments

If you have a DVD, CD or digital training program in your possession that is sitting there waiting for you to finish it, raise your hand. I’m raising my hand right now. I have a marketing video series sitting next to my desk - half finished. It was a gift, but when I first received it, I was plowing through the marketing DVDs. Then I went to a Mari Smith live event to learn more about Social Media, joined a mastermind and moved on to other things. They’ve been sitting there for well over a year.

Here’s what I’ve learned about investing in coaches, mentors, and any kind of product that give you business or mindset training; they’re only good if you use them. And using them means more than just listening.

Here’s the only way to get true value:

  1. Be present while using your info product or attending a live session.
  2. Be very clear about the outcomes you want from your time spent.
  3. Block out time on your calendar for your learning, especially if it’s home study course.
  4. Block out more time in your calendar to implement the material.
  5. Ask questions of the instructor if you need more clarity on their process.
  6. Enroll in a program or coaching that will assist you in the implementation and create some form of accountability.

The White Noise Phenomenon

If you’re a deliberate creator on any level, you know that your thoughts and emotions produce the results you experience in your life. Yes, you create it all. And often you co-create with the many people that surround you.

Consciously making choices in your business to use the Law of Attraction to help you do the “hard” work can be a very satisfying game.

  1. Clarify what you want in your business
  2. Line up your emotions and thoughts with the desire
  3. Fully trust the process

It really is that simple. So why aren’t more business owners experiencing growth, enjoyment and massive profitability? It’s very challenging to believe that what you want can be handed over on a silver platter without working your tail off. There are many other reasons, and I’ve seen them all, but I want to address one in particular that most people aren’t aware they’re even doing.

The White Noise Phenomenon.

There’s a System for That!

ThereGÇÖs a System for That! While discussing life problems when in the company of fellow iPhone users, you’re bound to hear, “I bet there’s an app for that!” And there usually is an application that will help solve whatever issue or bad habit you want to correct.

The same is true for your business. Name any irritation in your biz and I bet you can create a system that will smooth the rough waters.

Think of your top 3 problems right now. I’ll name the ones I see most from my surveys of entrepreneurs.

  • Increase cash flow
  • Attract ideal clients
  • Create a website (or makeover current one)
  • Create and launch new product or service
  • Pay off debt
  • Create marketing plan
  • Create business plan
  • Get out of overwhelm

While you may think that there is some secret formula that you can’t access to get your perfect solution, there is nothing farther from the truth. Systems play a key role in having a breakthrough in every topic I mentioned above. Plus, you can use systems to have continued success and flow.

As a business coach, I help my clients find systems that will work with their natural work style. A system has zero value if you won’t use it or your team isn’t on board. It’s important that it is easy to follow and implement while making your life easier once you’re in the habit of using the system.

My intention is to light a fire under your bum to create a least one new system as a result of reading this, then implement it in the next week. Are you willing?

I’ll give you some examples of systems you can use. It’s up to you to fill in the blanks or get with your business coach or mentor to fine-tune your ideal process. I could write a 1000 page book on this topic, so I’m very aware that I’m not giving you as complete of an answer as I’d like.

If you already have systems in place, think about how you could radically change it if you were to think like a RockStar CEO. If you could create the most efficient, easy and bold system, what might you change?

Increase cash flow:
Last year I created follow up emails for all of my products. Now when a customer orders a product online, though a series of emails, I make sure they use what they bought, motivate them to implement the information and suggest other products they may benefit from. A lot of writing up front, but now my autoresponders do all of the work.

If you contact potential customers through emails, phone conversations or in person, I’d create a structure for when, how and what you’ll say. Do you have a system for tracking the conversations?

You can also create a system for increasing cash flow and attracting your ideal clients that involves a personal process that you do every day to amp up your vibe. Do an activity that totally gets you in your power zone.

Attracting ideal clients:
I’ve created a process, with Eva Gregory, to attract 5 Star clients. It includes writing down every little thing you’d want to have in a client, from the way they treat you to paying ahead of schedule. I also use this process for attracting my ideal team members, gardeners, house cleaners, etc. You can create a checklist for what they need to have, in order for you to say ‘yes’ to them. Do not say yes to anybody who will put coin in your pocket!

Do you have a welcome packet ready for all of the new clients you’ll be attracting? Do you make it easy for them to pay you? Do you describe their hot issues on your website and in other marketing so that they know you’re speaking to them?

Launching new products, services and websites:
Projects like these usually include many details and moving parts to complete. They also require help and a learning curve. All of this means they will take longer than you expect and longer than the experts tell you. Whatever system you use, you must chunk down the steps into doable size actions over the course of a month or more.

I personally like to do a data dump from my head onto paper. Then I talk to any contractors or team members who are going to help me, to find out what they say are my most important priorities for the project.

Then I do a mind map of sorts. Break down the projects into categories like:

  1. Create my intention for what the new product, service or website will do for my customers and what it will do for my business.
  2. What is the main message?
  3. What are the topics I will cover?
  4. Write content
  5. Plan for how I will market
  6. When and how will I launch with pizzazz
  7. Calendar out when I will work on the project and for how long

Business and marketing plans:
Find a format that will inspire you to do it every year. I’ve used many fill-in-the-blank business plans from popular books and eventually created my own 1-Page HELL YES Business plan. I believe in one-pagers because it keeps things simple and you can post in on the wall or keep on your desk year round. Carve out time to do it In a day or in one-hour chunks until it’s done.

The business owners in my live event did theirs in one-hour total. It was easy because they’d spent the previous day and half getting clear on their vision, issues and solutions. That’s what YOU should do first, too!

Then calendar your inspired actions monthly and weekly by checking in with your plan. Do the same with a marketing plan.

I’m old school. I like to do everything on paper. First I write down my calendar of launches … what classes, programs and products I’m going to launch in the upcoming year. I use a month-at-a-glance calendar and then write in when email promotions need to be sent to promote each launch. Then I create an email to my assistant with the schedule listed and she starts connecting with other business owners in the industry who will help support my launches.

Overwhelm:
Overwhelm is a perspective. Train yourself to focus on the ‘now’ moment and give yourself less to do each day. I’m a HUGE fan of using Stephen Covey’s 6 Big Rocks to organize my daily tasks. All of my clients use my Speed Dial the Universe journal to get grounded and prioritized for the day. It IS a system.

Prioritize by using your business and marketing plan and chunking things down into small bites. We also use online systems for reminders (I like Google calendar). I can’t live without my Day Runner organizer (I told you I was old school!).

Debt elimination:
Make a plan or don’t complain. A plan will make you feel in control. The system can be as simple as making double the minimum payment on your smallest debt each month. See? Systems can be easy.

When I was knee deep in debt and making about $3000 a month (not enough to even cover my expenses), I used a spreadsheet to track the balances owed on each debt. I focused on appreciating every dollar that my debt went down each month. Nine months later I was debt free (a miracle in my eyes!) and doubled my income that year.

Just to set the record straight, all problems come back to you. You must shift the way you relate to your business to make real change. Use systems to support the transformation.

Overwhelm is a Choice

Overwhelm is a ChoiceWhen your head spins with To-Do lists, your In Box is overflowing and your desk is cluttered with stuff that needs to be handled it can trigger a feeling that is anything but empowering. Cocktail, anyone?

Feeling overwhelmed by your work and life is a fast way to kill your emotional well-being. I lived in overwhelm for over a year and it darn near killed me. The good news is that overwhelm can be stopped dead in its tracks when you can see that it is a choice.

Yep, it’s true. And if it’s a choice to feel overwhelmed then you can easily choose some other perspective to replace it.

But before you can figure out how to shift out of it, you have to actually pinpoint what is driving it. When I was in the grips of overwhelm, it was because I had a fear of not making enough revenue. I also thought that taking massive action was the key to profit generation. When I couldn’t check off all the to-do’s on my list, I believed that the roof would cave in on me.

What’s behind your overwhelm? Pleasing others? Unreal expectations? Fear of failure? Lack of self-confidence in your ability to attract wealth? Inability to stay present in the moment?

Most likely, you have a combination of several beliefs going on that have your head ready to burst. Overwhelm can also be caused by focusing on a problem repeatedly without shifting into solution seeking mode. For instance, you can be triggered by an unexpected car repair bill and all of sudden you’re consumed with fear about money in general. You’ve conjured up several worst-case scenarios and you can’t even focus on your work.

Both types of overwhelm require you to step out of the fog or adrenaline of stress. Start chunking down the problem. Your brain can only focus on one thing at a time successfully. After you identify the driver of the stress, ask yourself what one thing you can do right now to make you feel in control. Then take the action. This will shift you back into your power.

As a business owner, you will always have a never ending list of things you want to do to improve your business. Make friends with that list. It doesn’t rule you, you rule it. They’re your ideas and you only have so many hours in a day. You get to choose what you work on, in what order and how much time you want to give it.

There is only one illusion happening when you are overwhelmed … that you have no control. You’ve made up that there is not enough time, not enough money, and not enough solutions. But it all comes down to a choice. Choose to come back to your center. You have to deliberately SNAP yourself out of it.

Once you align with your power, you’ll see that you’ve always had control. You never lose it. Sometimes you just can't see it behind your fear.

Can you identify ways that overwhelm is interfering with your life?

Rampant Overwhelm

Rampant OverwhelmI’ve been writing about it for years. I coach clients on this topic every week. I watch colleagues fizzle under its pressure. Business owners are run by it. Everyone reacts to it ungracefully. It’s running rampant in the world.

It’s called overwhelm.

Overwhelm is a perspective, not a thing that comes and gets you out of nowhere. All overwhelm is self-imposed.

Now, overwhelm is no stranger to me. I’ve experienced it in extreme quantities in my business and my personal life. I went through several coaches who tried to have me implement time management strategies to cope with the overwhelming thoughts of all I had to do to keep my business running. It didn’t work. In fact, it made me more stressed. I thought, “I must really be a failure. I’m doing what my coach is telling me and I still feel like I’m going to have a heart attack.”

Guess what? The coaches’ advice only gave me half of the equation to my solution. No strategy in the world was going to kill off the feeling of overwhelm if I didn’t change my beliefs about what “had” to get done. I also had to look inside myself to see what I thought made up my definition of success in business and as a woman in general.

Some of the beliefs I had to chuck out the window were:

  • Before I leave on a trip, the entire house needs to be cleaned.
  • My success hinges on being able to check off everything on my to do list.
  • I have to have a “perfect” website in order to attract ideal clients and reach my targeted income.
  • I have to attend every networking meeting and follow up on every lead, even if I don’t want to.
  • I must read all of the latest business and personal growth books and attend seminars whenever possible in order be successful.
  • If the big dogs in my industry do something, I must follow their lead, even if it’s uncomfortable.
  • When having a party I have to have a theme, make at least a dozen dishes, have fabulous party favors and really WOW my guests.
  • I HAVE to make several types of cookies, wrap them in elegant packaging and hand deliver to ALL of my friends that I don’t buy gifts for during the holidays.
  • I must buy everyone I love gifts for their birthday and holidays so that they know how much I appreciate them.

Phew! I’m overwhelmed just thinking about all the things I used to believe! No wonder I was having a hard time.

The sure fire way to break the habit of overwhelm, and it IS a habit, is to focus on the essence of the desired end result and create strategies for flow. For instance, I used to go to networking meetings to get new clients. The essence of what I wanted was to meet new people and attract clients that I loved. Were there other ways to get that outcome without attending several meetings and cold calling leads? Of course!

I decided to only attend my favorite meeting and followed up on warm leads only. I loved the networking group I chose and felt no pressure to be a hard sell. I ended up coaching many of the group members over the years as a result. I even threw away a six-inch stack of leads that had been sitting by the phone for months that made me feel like a procrastinating loser.

I then let go of the belief that networking needed to be my main avenue of attracting clients and they came in by the bucket load from referrals and my website. Trusting that you will get your desired outcome without being attached to a specific process or strategy will ease overwhelm in a jiffy.

Investigate what beliefs, actions and habits are creating your state of overwhelm. Notice what triggers your overwhelm. Then begin creating new rules about what it means to be a success. If I’m enjoying what I’m doing, with no pressure, I’m a success. Period.

In what ways can you break the habit of overwhelm?

Chunk-Down that Goal and Get Out of Overwhelm

Chunk-Down that Goal and Get Out of Overwhelm
by Jack Canfield

Sometimes our biggest life goals seem so overwhelming.

We rarely see them as a series of small, achievable tasks, but in reality, breaking down a large goal into smaller tasks—and accomplishing them one at a time—is exactly how any big goal gets achieved.

After you have decided what you really want, with specific deadlines, the next step is to determine all of the individual action steps you will need to take to accomplish your goal.

How to Chunk It Down

There are several ways to figure out the action steps you will need to take to accomplish any goal. One is to consult with people who have already done what you want to do and ask what steps they took. From their experience, they can give you all of the necessary steps as well as advice on what pitfalls to avoid.

Another way is to purchase a book or manual that outlines the process.

Yet another way is to start from the end and look backward. You simply close your eyes and imagine that it is now the future and you have already achieved your goal. Then just look back and see what you had to do to get to where you now are. What was the last thing you did? And then the thing before that, and then the thing before that, until you arrive at the first action you had to start with.

Remember that it is okay not to know how to do something.

It’s okay to ask for guidance and advice from those who do know. Sometimes you can get it free, and sometimes you have to pay for it. Get used to asking, “Can you tell me how to go about...?” and “What would I have to do to...?” and “How did you...?”

Keep researching and asking until you can create a realistic action plan that will get you from where you are to where you want to go.

What will you need to do? How much money will you need to save or raise? What new skills will you need to learn? What resources will you need to mobilize? Who will you need to enroll in your vision? Who will you need to ask for assistance? What new disciplines or habits will you need to build into your life?

Another valuable technique for creating an action plan for your goals is called mind mapping.

How to Use Mind Mapping

Mind mapping is a simple but powerful process for creating a detailed to-do list for achieving your goal. It lets you determine what information you’ll need to gather, who you’ll need to talk to, what small steps you’ll need to take, how much money you’ll need to earn or raise, which deadlines you’ll need to meet, and so on—for each and every goal.

When I began creating my first educational audio program—a breakthrough goal that led to extraordinary gains for me and my business—I used mind mapping to help me “chunk down” that very large goal into all the individual tasks I would need to complete to produce a finished product.

To mind-map your own goals, follow these steps as illustrated in the example:

1.) Center circle: In the center circle, jot down the name of your stated goal—in this case, Create an Audio Educational Program.

2.) Outside circles: Next, divide the goal into the major categories of tasks you’ll need to accomplish to achieve the greater goal—in this case, Title, Studio, Topics, Audience, and so on.

3.) Spokes: Then, draw spokes radiating outward from each mini-circle and label each one (such as Write Copy, Color Picture for Back Cover, and Arrange Lunch.)

On a separate line connected to the minicircle, write every single step you’ll need to take. Break down each one of the more detailed task spokes with action items to help you create your master to-do list.

Next, Make a Daily To-Do List

Once you’ve completed a mind map for your goal, convert all of the to-do items into daily action items by listing each one on your daily to-do lists and committing to a completion date for each one. Then schedule them in the appropriate order into your calendar and do whatever it takes to stay on schedule.

Do First Things First

The goal is to stay on schedule and complete the most important item first. In his excellent book, Eat That Frog! 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time, Brian Tracy reveals not just how to conquer procrastination but also how to prioritize and complete all of your action items.

In his unique system, Brian advises goal-setters to identify the one to five things you must accomplish on any given day, and then pick the one you absolutely must do first. This becomes your biggest and ugliest frog.

He then suggests you accomplish that task first—in essence, eat that frog first—and, by so doing; make the rest of your day much, much easier. It’s a great strategy. But unfortunately, most of us leave the biggest and ugliest frog for last, hoping it will go away or somehow become easier. It never does. However, when you accomplish your toughest task early in the day, it sets the tone for the rest of your day.

By chunking down your goals, and then taking daily action on them, you create momentum and build your confidence, both of which move you farther and faster toward the achievement of your goals.

Now go take some action!
